HP1102W
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have an HP1102w printer that is working with other computers on the network. I added a new computer to the network.

I know that the new computer is on the network because I can share files with it. I know the printer is on the network because I can print to it from other computers. I was hoping that things equal the to same thing are equal to each other.

I had the printer on this computer working briefly but it developed the dreded Requires Attention error. I ran diagnostics (the winodws tool and the HP Doctor) and none of them solved the issue.

So I deleted the device, downloaded the driver and "installed" the driver - I ran the executable.

When I go to Devices and printers, I see the printer. However, none of my applications see the printer, nor can I get the status of the printer.

When I right click on the printer in Devices and Printers, I see the following menu items:

Open, Open in New Window, Create Shortcut, Remove Device, Troubleshoot and Properties.

I do not see See what's printing, set as default printer, printing preferences, Printer Properties.

I've tried several other "solutions" but none of them work.

This is the current status of my computer. I am willing to do anything short of re-installing windows. What do you recommend.

I'd be willing to click through the various menus an let you know what I see.

I decided to follow up on my own suggestion about Add a Printer.

I deleted the printer and driver per the instructions above.

However, instead of downloading and installing the driver, I opted to open the Control Panel, Devices and pritners and Add a printer.

The application searched for the HP1102 and on computer 1 did not find it but on computer 2 it did find it.

In both cases, I selected "The printer I am looking for was not found." I ignored the printer it did find on computer 2. (Originally I selected it, but that did not solve the issue.)

I selected the first option. My printer is an older printer. ...

I scrolled down to HP and selected the following driver: HP Laserjet Mono PCLms Class Driver (This was the name of the driver I removed with printui command).

Both computers are now printing although under a different name (Hp LaserJet Mono ... instead of P1102).

Welcome to HP forums, I see that you are unable to connect the printer to the computer.

Follow the below steps to fix this issue.

I recommend you delete the driver from root level and reinstall the printer driver.

1)Windows, search for and open Programs and features.

2) Select your HP Printer.

3) Select Uninstall.

4) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers.

5) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’.

6) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.

7) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

😎 Click on the “Drivers” tab.

9) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom.

10) Select Ok.

11) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12) Close Devices and Printers.

Download and run full feature driver form the printer.

Click here to download the driver.

Let me know how it goes.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others and please give the same post a Kudos.

Cheers.

I actually have two computer with this issue.

On computer #1, I opened program and features. The HP printer was NOT listed, so I skipped steps 2 and 3.

On step 4, the device is listed, I selected it and clicked "Remove Device" several times and it will not go away. I stopped trouble shooting computer 1 at this point. Obviously there is somethinge seriously wrong with Windows if it can't delete a device.

On computer #2, I opened programs and features. THe HP printer was not listed, so I skipped steps 2 and 3.

On step 4,  the device is listed, I selected it and clicked "Remove Device" and it DID go away.

I ran printui.exe /s and foound the following driver: HP Laserjet Mono PCCms Class Driver. When I ran the application I got the following message: Driver HP Laserjet Mono PCCms was removed. Failed to remove package prnhd1,ini.  Access is denied.

I donwloaded hp_LJP1100_P1560_P1600_Full_Solution-v20120831-50157036_SMO.exe and ran it. It unpacked and nothing further happened. No dialog screens or anything else came up.

I went back to Devices and Printers. The device is there but grayed out. When I right click on it the only menu items I get are Open, Open in new Window, Create Shortcut, Remove Device, Troubleshoot and Properties. Missing are See what's printing, Set as Default Printer, Printing Preferences and Printer properties.

That is the current status of computer #2. I will check in on the Microsoft side of the house to ask why the Control Panel cannot delete a device on computer #1.

Update on computer #1 - I restarted the computer and then I was able to remove the device. I ran the rest of the instructions. After downloading the drvier, the device does not appear on Devices and printers. It simply vanished!

Can something be done with the Add Printer option on Devices and Printers?

Thanks to the both of you for your help. I am impressed that HP personnel volunteer (I presume) to staff this board.

Given some of the quirkiness I experienced, I suggest that you might also recommend RESTARTING* windows between steps at least in stubborn cases like mine.

* According to one of my favorite sites, How-to-Geek, when Windows 10 shuts down, it caches some information to allow it to load faster when power is restored. If you want to clear out everything you need to select the restart option.

P.S. There is a third computer that still sees the printer as P1102W and is happy to print to it.
