I don't have a paper jam.  It is a mechanical issue.  On the hinged side of the feeder cover towards the front of the machine, shown in the attached photo, the black plastic is stuck in the white slot and will not release.  I need instructions on how to release the black plastic from the slot.

Welcome to HP forums, I see that ADF cover is not closing.

I don't see the mailbox icon.  I did see something that referred me to HP technical support where I will have have to pay a fee since my printer is out of warranty.

I was able to use a letter opener and carefully lift the plastic part out of the slot and close the ADF cover.  I made copies using the ADF and everything is working correctly.
