Laser Jet 8710; Computer Dell Inspiron 620
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

The Problem:  There is a big vertical streak on copies made by my HP 8710 Laser Jet printer.  The streak is about one and a half centimters thick.  Also, the printing on the rest of the page is less distinct.

This problem does not arise when I print documents from files on my computer.  My computer is a Dell Inspirron 620,

I haven't had this printer for long.  The trouble shooting tips on here were of no use.

I will be very grateful for all assistance

@AllegedlyDavid,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I see from your post that you're having issues while making a copies from your HP OfficeJet printer. No worries, I'll be glad to assist you.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you recently made any changes on the printer before the issue started?

Have you tried to clean the scanner glass as well as the plastic stripe on the document feeder?

What happen when you try to make a blank copy? Do you still get vertical streaks.

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

Next thing, I would suggest here is to follow the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Printers - Resolving Copy Problems

Alternatively, I would suggest you could also try to update the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website. Alternatively you can also try to update the printer firmware directly from the printer control panel. Once done, restart the computer.

For more details on how to update, please use this link: HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

that said, If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.
