This problem pops up occasionally and then will just disappear.

I'll get horizontal blue lines every 76mm after replacing a toner cartridge.  Today it was after changing the magenta.  Putting the original cartridge back does not fix the issue.  Swapping out Cyan still does not fix the issue.  I've gone through each toner ....  issue remains.

I've put it back into the same configuration before this starts - and still get the same blue lines.

 

Any ideas?

76mm is a defect in the print cartridge or the fuser.  If you have already swapped the Cyan cartridge then examine the fuser next. 

 

You can perform a halfway test to confirm if the defect is occuring before the fuser or not.  http://www.printertechs.com/printer-troubleshooting/halfway-test

I had not considered the 1/2 way test.  And I found the service manual shortly after posting my question.

 

I also could have been wrong on my troubleshooting.  It still does not make sense to me, but I have a little more information now and I've also got the blue lines to go away.

 

First off, the printer was very low on yellow and magenta so they were both replaced.  After that was done the blue lines started.  So we tried swapping the old ones back in and we still had the blue line.  Put new ones back in one at a time with no help.  It wasn't until the cyan was replaced that the blue lines went away.  What gets me is that toner wasn't touched and it's probably 3/4 unused.

 

I apologize for the incorrect statements in my first post; but figured I would update here for future reference.

Sometimes toner cartridges are defective.  If you are purchasing 3rd party cartridges then consider contacting them for a refund or a discount on your next purchase.  We usually keep a supply of HP originals on hand for troubleshooting situations like this.
