HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw

Is there a way to drag the window or shrink the page to see the whole window?

Hi @wmuser69

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

The HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M283fdw, this appears to be a software issue rather than a printer hardware problem. There are reports of the HP scanning window/dialogue becoming too large or partially off-screen, making the X/Close button inaccessible.

Try maximizing the window

  • After the dialogue appears, press Alt + Space.
  • Press X to maximize, or use the arrow keys to select Maximize.
  • You can also try Windows key + Up Arrow.

If the window is positioned off-screen

  • Click the affected dialogue.
  • Press Alt + Space.
  • Press M for Move.
  • Use the arrow keys to bring the window back onto the screen.
  • Move the mouse and click once when the window is visible.

Reduce Windows display scaling temporarily

  • Go to Settings → System → Display → Scale.
  • Try 100% instead of 125%/150%.
  • Restart HP Smart and test scanning again.

Alternatively, use HP Scan

HP provides HP Scan for Windows for LaserJet MFPs, allowing you to scan and save documents directly from the computer.

If you are currently using HP Smart.

Try installing the newer HP App and scan through it instead. A recent HP Community report describes essentially the same "saved dialogue box cannot be closed" problem and recommends moving to the HP App, HP Scan, HP Universal Scan, or Windows Scan.

Take care and have an amazing day!
