CLJ CM2320nf
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi everyone,

I have a CLJ CM2320nf and I want to buy the optional tray 3. I found what I thought was the right product on Amazon but it's obviously not correct.

QUESTION: What is the correct part number for the option tray 3 for my printer; Q3952A or CB500A? And, why does the HP literature use two different numbers for this? It seems they are not the same item.

On page 247 of the User Guide (CC434-90907) it shows the part number is Q3952A.

But, on page 3 of the sales brochure (4AA2-0270ENUC, July 2011, Rev 2) it shows the part number to be CB500A.

I figured the confusion was due to the way that HP gives parts numbers (part number, model number, and many others that I can't think of right now ).

I thought I got lucky when I found what I thought was the right tray 3 for my printer on Amazon.com.

But, I didn't get the item pictured in the ad, this is what I got.

This clearly is not the same item pictured in the ad.

But, the part number is correct.

On top of that the front of the tray says, "2," not "3" like I would assume would be correct.

So, any idea why HP seems to have two numbers for these two trays when only one seems like to work with my printer?

Thanks!

Larry.

In answer to your question:

No, I don't know why you are finding different answers to the question.

The printer is ten years old -- does that make a difference?  Maybe.  Depending on the source of the information, things might get tangled over time.

Thanks for the info! I was able to send the wrong paper tray back via Amazon (free return shipping) and have ordered one from an eBay seller that now looks like the correct item (as before) and has what looks like the correct part number. I'll let everyone know once I get it and have tested it.

You are welcome.

It is confusing -- I suspect the trouble stems from the fact that this particular laser printer is  no longer supported.  "Stuff gets weird" for unsupported products.  Rats.

Nice that the old printer is hanging in there -- many of the HP laser printers do keep working far beyond their original expected "lifespan" (supported product life).

Hopefully, the next tray will be the "right" tray.

Good Luck.

OK, so the correct paper tray arrived today and it works! So the correct part number is the CB500A.

The one odd thing I didn't expect is that if I use legal sized paper that the tray sticks out from the front of the printer. This is true (I now know) for both tray 2 and tray 3.

Tray 3 with legal sized paper.Tray 3 with legal sized paper.

It would be nice if it was able to hold legal paper totally within the printer but I can live with this (other than the top sheet getting dusty after a while).

Thanks for the help!

I guess if I had thoroughly read the User Guide (all 292 pages) I would have seen this little note:

Tray_Legal_Paper.jpg

I wonder if HP ever made a neat looking cover for the 2.5" that extends out so that dust doesn't collect on that top sheet? If not, maybe I'll need to try to fabricate something.

Thanks,

Larry.
