HP680MFP

I need to insert a new hard drive into my HP680MFP. Can I buy a standard 320GB hard drive? This will be the same make and model as the one that was taken out of the printer.  Will the device automatically pick up the settings/firmware or do I need to pre-install them on the hard drive? Or do I need to buy a pre-loaded hard drive from HP? Thanks!

If you buy HDD for your printer model it will have loaded firmware on it. Those disks from HP are secured and data on them are encrypted, and the prices is higher.

You can install standard disk, but you will need to format and load firmware on in, and data will not be secured as they would be on an original disk from HP.

If you can find the same SED drive you can encrypt the data, however we have had a lot of problems sourcing the SED (self encrypting) hard disks. You will need to follow the procedures for locking the drive to the printer. Any time I have purchased a Laserjet drive kit from HP the firmware is not installed, it is just a blank disk.
