HP Laserjet Professional M1217
macOS 10.12 Sierra

Hi, I recently started using my Laserjet Pro M1217nfw again after about 1.5 years (I was mainly using my inkjet printer, but now I'm finding I don't print much in color.)

I hooked it up, setup through the web interface, gave it an IP of 192.168.1.23 on my LAN. It's connected over wifi to my router, as it's not able to be close enough to use a cable.

My computer is an iMac running 10.12.5 (Sierra), and nothing I did would let me use it with my wired ethernet connection.

I tried having my iMac and Laserjet on the same wifi network together, and *poof*, it starts printing.

I'm trying to figure out why my iMac can't seem to see the printer just through the wired connection - they're both still connecting through the same *router*.

Thanks for any help you can provide,

        -Bryan

Hi,

You can use wired LAN or wireless. You can't not use BOTH at the same time. Please disconnect the ethernet cable.

Regards.

The problem is, it works over wireless, but WON'T work over ethernet for some reason.

When I turn off wireless, it stops recognizing the printer - it sees that it's there, but nothing ever actually prints out unless I'm on wifi.

Obviously the ethernet on the computer works, because that's how I'm usually online.

Is there anything I can check either in the web setup or in the router that might be causing the problem?

Hi,

As mentioned above. You can't connect wired and wireless at the same time.

If you wish to print wired, you have to reinstall software and drivers and select wired. And you have to reinstall again if you wish to switch to wireless.

Oh I see...I thought I just installed it as a "network" printer, didn't think it mattered whether wired or wireless.

Will check on that, thanks 🙂
