M1217nfw
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

I recently upgraded my router, and since then I have not been able to connect my HP M1217nfw to the network. I have tried following instructions but they all say to go to the Wireless Setup Wizard, and I can't find that anywhere on the little display on the printer. The network config options are Wireless Direct, Wireless Radio, Network Test and WPS Setup (which has 'Pushbutton' and 'PIN').

I have tried pressing the WPS button on the router and have even tried connecting the printer to the router with an ethernet cable but it still doesn't appear in the list of printers on my Mac.

I saw something about  older printers possibly not working on a very fast 5G ready network and I should find a 2G option, but our new router doesn't provide a 2G option as far as I can see. The old one had both.

Any ideas, apart from buying a new printer?

Thanks!

Hi,

Your printer does not have a Wireless Setup Wizard, it should be set using a temporary USB cable from your Mac.

From the Setup Menu select Network and then Restore Network Defaults, confirm any prompt to restore the network settings.

Be sure to have a USB cable for a printer read, you would need to temporarily connect it.

Next, follow below steps to connect the printer to your new network using the HTML Config Utility, the exact same steps listed under 'Setting up the printer on a wireless network (Mac)' below are applicable for your printer too:

If your new router provides 5G only wi-fi you will not be able to connect M1217nfw because that printer supports 2,4G wi-fi only.

A lot of printers support 2,4G wi-fi only, so double check before purchase that new model will support both 2,4G and 5G wireless. Only newest printers are dual wireless.

Oh no! Thanks for this. They don't tell you that when they send you a new router... 😞
