After hours and days of troubleshooting this issue I found the answer myself after seeing another post on a different forum dealing with the same issue.  Apparantly my router (Hitron) had the WPS setting disabled/turned off.  I had to log into my router and input the router username and password.  (To find these I had to call my internet provider (shaw).)  If you know these already then you can locate the router WPS button setting online by putting the IP address of your router, typically found on the back of your router (will look like 192.168.0.15 or similar) into your internet browser window (ie:Safari).  It will pull up your router info.  Add in the username and password, go to wireless and make sure your WPS button is enabled.  That worked for me!
