Laserjet MFP M28w
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi

I seemingly can't turn off the WiFI on my MFP M28w printer. I have NOT enabled it in the HP Printer Assistant software, and the wireless button on the printer is OFF. To confirm, I printed out a wireless network test report from the software and it says the following:

Wireless on: Fail

Wireless Working: Not run

Network Name SSID Found: Not run

The wireless radio on your HP Printer is currently turned OFF

HOWEVER, my cellphone detects "Direct-a5--HP M28 LaserJet". When I turn the printer power off, that device disappears.

So, is WiFi enabled, or have I been hacked?

I have no need for WiFi because the printer is directly connected to my comptuer

Hi,

While your WiFi is off, your WiFi Direct is still on and therefore you can still see that signal.

From your HP Laserjet M28 software select the Print category and open the HP Device Toolbox.

Within the Wireless tab select WiFi Direct and disable the feature.

Now you will no longer see any wifi signal.

Where can I find the HP software page that you’ve mentioned to turn off the WiFi?
