I DID IT!!!!!!!!!!!!  I finally got the firmware updated!!!  Sometimes ya gotta think outside the box!!!!  I'm an HP field tech and normally we can't just click an .EXE to update firmware.  So that what got me thinking about extracting the .EXE (see previous post).  Then I thought about updating via USB, the same way we do non-networked Laserjet printers and it worked!!!

So what you have to do is extract out the .ful file from the update package (OJ6500_E710n-z_R1206A.exe), I used 7zip to do that.  Then rename it and put it in the root of C:  I just renamed mine to fw.ful, short and sweet.

Next, you have to share the printer, make the name short and sweet.  I called mine Officejet.

Then I went to an elevated command prompt (not sure if it was necessary but just in case) and copied the firmware file over.  Here is the command I used

copy /b c:\fw.ful \\your computername\printer sharename

My printer is now running firmware version 1206!!!  Not sure why this wouldn't run and update like its supposed to but atleast now we have a way to do it.  Hopefully everyone else can get this going on their printer.

Nice Gyle, never thought about turning off the check. Crazy how we went so long without being able to update and then find two different solutions the same day.

Thanks, Gyle and Talon4x4.

I now have both of my 6500a Plus printers updated to the 1206AR firmware.

Used 7-zip to extract all the files from the firmware file (OJ6500_E710n-z_R1206A.exe) to a new folder.  Then opened the EnterpriseDU.ini file in this new folder with notepad, changed the value for VerifyDownloadID from 1 to 0, and saved the changed file back to the same folder.  From this new folder I then ran  EnterpriseDU.exe and the firmware updated like a charm.

Thank for the solution guys

I cannot update the firmware to CIP1FN1206AR. My current firmware is CIP1FN1162AR.

I have a HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z, model E710n, productnumber CN557A.

I tried wireless. There is no productupdate available.

I tried with the update file OJ6500_E710n-z_R1206A.exe. It is grayed out and not applicable.

The normal way of updating does not work.  Please read the posts just a couple up from yours to find the solution (one of them is even highlighted in green)!!  Two of us have already outlined two different solutions in great detail which show how to get the update to work.

Thank you for responding. I read the workarounds. I prefer a solution from HP, because the problem is known by HP.

If you really need your printer upgraded I would say your only solution is in this thread until the problem gets corrected.

No worries.

I just upgraded my printer by hacking the EnterpriseDU.ini file.

Change the VerifyDownloadID value from 1 to 0 and then run the EnterpriseDU.exe program. I had to click Refresh twice before my printer was found. That could be because I was connected over the wired network instead of USB perhaps.

Anyway, after that, the firmware installed in a few minutes and finally printed a Status Report showing the CIP1FN1206AR firmware version.

Hopefully HP will figure out the right way soon so other don't need to hack.

This was the solution HP support offered. It worked indeed!:smileyhappy:

But it is curious that the firmware file is not updated with a working one.

I used the small hack to update my brand-new HP OfficeJet 6500A Plus (E710n-z) printer and it completed succesfully but since then the ADF is not working with the error Reload Document, and then restart job. I have made a topic here if someone can help me:

Has anyone else here experienced the same issue after the update?
