For many years I've had a Color LaserJet CM1312 printer/scanner/fax working properly on my Windows 10 desktop. I recently installed an additional HP inkjet printer on the same machine and began having troubles with the old laser printer. I've tried uninstalling both printers completely and uninstalling all HP software. When I tried to reinstall the software for the LaserJet it always crashes part of the way through the installation. When I tell it to search for a solution it sits there for hours and does nothing.
The printer appears as a fax under Windows "Devices and printers" but does not appear as the printer itself. However if I going to an application such as Microsoft Word, it does appear as my default printer and I can print from it. However I cannot turn on printer sharing because the printer does not appear under "Devices and Printers".
I tried downloading and installing the HP support assistant. But it says there is a problem installing it.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling all HP software multiple times. Even the uninstall crashes part way through. I then go into control panel, add and remove programs to complete uninstallation of everything from HP. I unplugged the printer, reboot the PC, try to reinstall everything from scratch. It always crashes about 96% of the way through.
Right now I can print from applications and the printer seems to work but I can't do printer sharing and obviously something's wrong because it doesn't appear under Devices and Printers.
Supposedly there are some error logs but I don't know where to find them. Tell me where they are admirably happy to post them here or wherever.

> It always crashes about 96% of the way through.
There should be some kind of an installation log on the machines %temp% directory with more inforamtion. If you can find it then take a look through from the bottom up and search for clues on what is breaking the installation.
I have had issues with this model around that percentage before. In our case we had conflicting Universal Pritn Drivers installed that were hijacking the installation before it was completely finished. The UPD was renaming the printer object on the machine which screwed with teh HP installation wizard. Everythign was successful but not in the way the HP installer was expecting.
Anywho, try unisntalling everyhting again and reboot. When you sign back in search through the installed printer drivers and remove anythign you do not need from HP. Print Drivers can be found with teh following steps.
Clean up Print Drivers:
1. Navigate to Start > Search "Control" > Select Control Panel
2. Click Devices and Printers
3. Highlight one of the printers
4. Click Print Server Properties in the dynamic toolbar
5. Click the Drivers Tab
6. Proceed to clean up the list of currently installed print drivers
Once you get the drivers cleaned up then try the latest HP installation software from HPs support website again. Feel free to attach the installation log if you happen to find it for additional analysis.

I was hopeful that was going to work because when I did go and look at the printer drivers there still was one from the DeskJet 1112. I removed it and redid everything from scratch. Had to disable HP CUE DeviceDiscovery Service because it said it needed to be stopped but it would not stop. So I canceled the installation, rebooted, disabled the service, and tried to install again. Crashed again. Again I can use the printer from applications such as Microsoft Word but it does not appear in Devices and Printers. The fax device appears but not the printer. I guess I will just have to live with it unless you have some other suggestions.

The only error I could detect from your log was this:
SetTheDefaultPrinter: Entering
Printer Name: HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP Series PCL 6
Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.
SetTheDefaultPrinter: Leaving
Not a huge deal if your PC couldnt apply the default printer setting. Otherwise the rest of the installation appears to have logged as a success.
If you can print from applications then there must be a printer queue tied to it. Your installation logs do suggest that the printer queue was succesful. Perhaps you cannot see the printer due to some strange user permission settings. Try launching Printers and Faxes as Admin and see if any other options appear. You can do the same from Device Manager.
One last comment would be about DDS. We had a lot of trouble with DDS in the past. I would advise you disable that application on startup through msconfig.exe. Long story short DDS was designed to help clean up extra network printing queues or duplicate queues. However it ends up uninstalling your primary printing queue due to some bug in the software. DDS is no longer a part of any of the current printer models. We always disabled that service to avoid unecessary reinstallations.
