HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277c6
Microsoft Windows 11

Laser Jet Pro MFP M277c6 was working great with my Lenovo laptop, Windows 11. On May 25, my PC suddenly quit recognizing my Printer!  I've removed the printer, got driver again [from an HP site]. When I try to load & install driver, it keeps "timing out" at the Connect the Product stage. Anyone experience anything like this? A friend thinks maybe a Windows security update may have changed something.  Thanks for any ideas, from LaserTree

It sounds more like a Windows/driver or printer-discovery issue than a failure of the M277 itself, particularly since the printer was working normally before May 25.

I would troubleshoot it in this order:

1. Check Windows Update history. Go to Settings → Windows Update → Update history and look for an update installed around May 25. HP recommends checking the update history when a printer stops working immediately after a Windows update.

2. Remove the existing HP software completely. Don't just remove the printer from Settings. Uninstall the HP printer software/HP app, remove the printer from Devices and Printers, then restart Windows. HP specifically recommends this clean removal before reinstalling the printer software.

3. Reinstall using HP's current software. The M277 series still has an active HP support/troubleshooting page, including Windows printer troubleshooting resources.

4. If you're using Wi-Fi, check the printer's network connection. Print a network configuration/report from the printer and verify that the printer has an IP address and that the Lenovo is connected to the same network. Windows also recommends checking that the PC and wireless printer are on the same network.

5. If the installer hangs specifically at "Connect the Product," try adding the printer manually. If the printer has an IP address, Windows can sometimes add it as a TCP/IP printer even when the HP installer cannot discover it.

If you're using USB, try a different USB cable and USB port as well. There have also been documented Windows 11 printer issues affecting USB-connected HP printers after Windows updates, so the connection method matters. I wouldn't immediately conclude that the M277c6 has failed. The fact that the HP installer reaches the "Connect the Product" stage suggests the problem may be with device discovery, the Windows print subsystem, network/USB communication, or the previous driver installation.

If you can determine whether you're connecting the M277c6 by USB, Wi-Fi, or Ethernet, that will narrow the troubleshooting considerably.
