Color LaserJet Pro MFP M281
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

My Color LaserJet pro seems to work fine with regular documents.  I printed a scanned doc 1 mb PDF with no problem.  I then rescanned at higher res  and tried to print the new pdf now 10 MB .. the printer activated, made some sound then just quit.  I had this same behavious with another scanned doc that i was able to print fine from the same MacBoodPRo in my office on another color laser,  so the file is OK ..

Am printing from a Mac ..

got no errors when it failed.

Seems the printer doesnt have enough RAM (256 MB according to info printed from the machine).

Any suggestions?       i would gladly incrase the RAM .. but cannot findout how to do this.

appreciate any help ...

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

  • Which application are you using to print PDF files, Preview or Adobe reader?

For now, Update the printer firmware

Check if there are any updates available for the Adobe Acrobat app.

You can also try re-installing the app to get the latest one installed.

Alternatively, Try using the Preview app and check if you have the same issue.

For more info on Preview, click here.

Let me know how this goes.

This is NOT a problem with acrobat ...  when i print to the color laser in my offce at work,  it prints fine ..

This issue might be caused due to file size or connectivity. As the file is 10 MB, the transfer and receive rate will dip and take time during which if the connectivity drops, it might not print.

  • How is the printer connected to your MAC?
  • If it is wireless, how far are the devices to each other?
  • Also, as mentioned in my previous post, try using the Preview app and check if it prints.

Keep me posted.
