HP LaserJet MFP M130nw
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

Hi, my printer is connected to the WIFI network in my house, the IP works and I can access to the admin console through that IP. But when I go to the on device menu steps Service -> Laserjet Update -> Check for updates now, the printer says "Connection Error. Check Internet Connection"

I know that internet connection is fine because I'm using that WIFI network right now typing this message. Wireless Network Test Report of the printer says all is passed and says that  the printer has found 5 networks with the same SSID - which definitely is not the case. My SSID is unique in the place I live and I only have just one access point, no repeaters or other modems.

Can anyone help me resolve that?

Thanks,

Olcayy

Good Day. A warm welcome to the HP community.

I reviewed the case regarding issues with the computer crashes randomly. I will be delighted to assist you here.

Superb description, brilliant troubleshooting and terrific observations made before posting. Kudos to you for that. 😉

For better clarity and to assist you correctly, I would require more information regarding this:

Did you try any troubleshooting steps before contacting us? How long are you facing this issue?

For now please try these steps:

follow these steps to reset the printer.

Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Wait at least 60 seconds.

Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

   NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.

Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

This should do the trick for you. Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue.

The trick is to remain patient, Going by your technical expertise and competence I am sure you will be able to perform these steps without breaking a sweat. 🙂

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. 😉

Unfortunately, this did not work. I still receive the same error message.

Thank you for your reply.

As @Barachiel is out of the office today, I'm replying to you. I truly appreciate your patience and efforts.

I understand that your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M130nw seems to be connected to the wifi network but is unable to access the internet through the control panel. A message appears saying "Connection Error. Check Internet Connection." I appreciate your efforts in troubleshooting this issue and have certainly done a good job.

To assist you with accurate information I would require more information regarding this:

  • Is the printer able to print from the computer? If yes then it indicates that the network connectivity is all good.
  • Are you trying to look for the updates for any particular reason of just like that?

While you respond to that. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector.
  • Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Let us perform a factory defaults on the printer. Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the printer and network settings to the factory defaults. It will not reset the page count, or tray size. To restore the printer to the factory-default settings, follow these steps. Restoring the factory-set defaults returns all of the settings to the factory defaults, and it also deletes any pages that are stored in the memory.

1. On the printer control panel, open the Setup menu.

2. Open the Service menu.

3. Select Restore Defaults.

4. The printer automatically restarts.

Rerun the wireless setup menu:

  • Go to the setup menu.
  • Scroll and select ""Network Setup".
  • In network setup, select "Wireless Menu".
  • Select "Wireless Setup Wizard" and run it.

Now the printer should connect to your wifi.

Hope this information helps. Feel free to let me know how it goes.

Good luck! 🙂

Hi Mkazi,

I can print and scan files with the printer. However printing some documents is taking way too long- more than 2 minutes - for especially image files - even if they are 200 KB JPEG files. I was hoping that a new firmware would make that quicker.

I've done all the steps, the reset and reconnection happened successfully but the printer still says it's not connected to internet.

Thanks,

@Olcayy

You're welcome and glad to have you back.

The successful printing and scanning indicates that the network connectivity is good between the printer and the router/computer.

There is a firmware update available Mac OS 10.12 an for Windows. In case, you have computers with these operating system that are in the same network then you may attempt to download and install the firmware update via this link: https://hp.care/2Jig2UJ

If the firmware update is unable to fix this issue then you may reset the printer. Please note that resetting the printer will restore it to its original factory condition and it will also disconnect from the network. You will need to re-setup the printer.

A private message has been sent with the reset steps.

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Let me know how it goes.

Cheers! 🙂
