@harehman83,

Thank you for posting this on HP Support Forums!

I see from your post that you're having issues with the printer making a crackling noise. Don't worry we'll work together to help you find a solution.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Have you checked for any obstructions inside the printer?

Are you able to move the carriage freely?

In this scenario, I would suggest here is to Remove the toner and close the door. The printer will automatically do a pre start cycle.

Check if you still hear the noise, If so, then this could be an issue with the drive gears or even the fuser on the printer.

If the noise is not heard without the toner, it means this could be due to the faulty toner, you will have to replace the toner.

Alternatively, you can try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the printer and make sure that the printer is connected directly to the wall outlet and not to the surge protector.

With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer and also unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

Remove USB cable, if present.

Wait for 2-3 minutes, press and hold the power button on your printer for about 30 seconds to remove any additional charge.

Now plug back the power cable straight to a wall outlet without any surge protector or an extension cord and then plug back the power cord to the printer.

Turn on the printer and wait till warm-up period finishes and the printer is idle.

You can try to update the printer firmware. If your printer connected wirelessly, make sure to temporary connect the device with USB and then follow the link to install the latest firmware update on your printer from our HP support website. Click here (Please select to download and install the latest firmware. Thanks all for your help. The problem has been resolved. Something stuck inside the printer was causing noise. As soon I removed the item the noise finished.
