Hello everyone,
I have an HP OfficeJet 8710 Printer, that I've used for over one year without much of an issue. I recently changed the ink cartridges from the ones that were originally used with the printer to authentic HP 952 XL ink cartridges that I purchased at a store. Anyways, I placed all of the new cartridges into the printer and out popped an error message saying, "One or more of cartridges are missing or damaged. " On top of the error message was 4 circles, each representing the ink cartridges that were supposedly not working.
I did some debugging. I unplugged each of the cartridges one by one and replaced them with the original cartridges that I had. For three out of the four ink cartridges (Black, Magenta, and Yellow), I replaced them with the old cartridges, and the previously mentioned error message came up at the top. When I replaced the cyan cartridge though, the error message went away, and the printer showed that the black, magenta, and yellow cartridges were at full, while the cyan cartridge was empty. So I took this to mean that the cyan cartridge was faulty in some regard, and I decided to return the cartridges to the store where I exchanged them with a new set of cartridges.
On accident, the old and empty ink cartridges got thrown away. I plugged the new set of cartridges which I bought, and again the same error message showed up with the 4 circles on top saying that one of the cartridges was missing or damaged. I removed the cyan cartridge, and again, it worked, and the error message changed to being only for the cyan cartridge.
So, I think that its really unlikely that both of those cartridges were bad, so my guess is that its some problem with the printer being able to read the cyan cartridge.
Anyways, I still can't print from the printer, because the printer refuses to print unless all of the cartridges have ink in them, and it can read them. So, I was wondering if anyone had a solution outside of just taking the printer in for servicing because I would like to avoid that.

Hi! @Cataclysmalism,
Your printer is designed to print only when all ink cartridges have ink. A little ink from all the ink cartridges is used in periodic servicing tasks. This helps to prevent issues such as printhead clogs and poor print quality. There is no way to bypass this feature
Check the ink level on your printer and replace low, empty or faulty ink cartridges on the printer.
Try updating the printer firmware to the latest version and check if it helps.
Update the printer firmware using this link. Click Here
Reset the printer
Resetting the printer can reset the connection with the ink cartridge and clear any error messages.
Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE:
HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Try to print.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps. It is a hardware issue with the printer.
