My new LaserJet Pro MFP M227 prints 2-sided pages by default. When I follow the instructions in the HP printer forum to swith to 1-sided by default, it does not work. I found a couple sets of these instruciotns, of diffent kinds, but no luck, even after trynig several times. So I have to manually swith from 2-sided to to 1-side for every new documant. It's very frustrating. I print many docs. Please advise me how to set my new printer to default 1-sided printing. I use Windows 7. The sets of instructions I found on the HP forum did not have instructions for my particular machine, the MPF M227. Apparently I need instructions for that model. Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing from you. The only other thing I can think of is that I don't see any button to click to "Apply" the default setting, so it keeps going back to 2-sided.

Hi,
Open the Control Panel and select Devices and Printers.
Right click the printer icon and select Pritning Preferences.
Within the Finishing tab ucheck the Print on Both Sides option, press Apply and then press OK.
From now on one sided printing will be by default, close the program you are printing from and then open it so the settings will surely take a place within your program.

Dear Shlomi,
Thank you for your reply, but I don't know how to start the process of the solution you suggest. (I'm not a techie.) I cannot find anything to select called "Devices and Printers" when I scroll through all the options on that little black control panel screen on the actural printer. Nor do I see any tab or option called "Control Panel" when I open up my HP MFP M227 desktop icon. So, as you can tell, I can't even get to the first step of your suggestion for a solution to the issue (how to set the printer to default 1-sided). Please advise me step by step where to find the Control Panel you refer to in your solution or how to find "Devices and Printers." Thank you. I appreciate your patience with me. I'm not a techie.

Hi Chas6,
The control panel refers to yoru computer, not to the printer itself...
From your computer press the Start button, then select Devices and Printers from the shown menu, from there change teh printer settings as a such need to be configured from yoru computer, not from the printer..

Hi Shlomi,
Thank you for the additional instructions, which I was able to follow. But the problem was not solved. When I opened the Finishing tab, the Print on Both Sides option was already unticked. So I tried this idea: I ticked the Pring Both Sides option and Applied it, and then hit OK, and then I tried a print run, which of course gave me two sides, which I don't want. So then I went back to the Finsihinig tab and unticked Print on Both Sides, Applied it, hit Ok, and then tried the print run again, but it still prints 2-sides. Please advise. Thank you.

Hi @Chas6,
What application you are printing from?
May you see any difference while printing from another applications such as Word, Google Chrome, etc.?
May you see that behavior applies for many programs or maybe only from any specific program?

Hi Shlomi,
In answer to your questions... If I print from the Web it prints 1-sided. If I print an email it prints 1-sided. If I print from my software (Windows 7; MS Word 2013) it prints 1-sided. But if I print from my software WordPerfect X7 it prints 2-sided. I use WordPerfect X7 for 95% of the time each day for my writing and editing, so this problem is a big deal to me.
Maybe this will help.... When I click on the Properties tab in the Print menu in WordPerfect X7, I am taken to a bunch fo info about my new printer (HP LaserJet MFP M227). In that section under Print on Both Sides it says "Yes, flip over." When I change that to No and click Okay, I can then print that particualr document as 1-sided. But as soon as I want to print another documant, that setting defaults back to "Yes, flip over." So that I must manuauly change it again. This is very annoing, as you may imagine, since I print many pages most every day.
Maybe this also will help.... The first day that I had this new printer, just a few days ago, it seemed to print 1-sided pages every time in my WordPerfect X7 software after I changed some setting somewhere (I don't recall where). A day or two later, I scanned a bunch of pages using the new printer, and that operation worked well. But it was after I used the scanner that the 2-sided problem arose when I print from WordPerfect X7. Please advise me how to resolve this problem with 2-sided printing.
Thank you,
Chas6

Shlomi: Thank you for your further reply. I followed the instructions closely on the Corel link you sent. They seemed straighforward. But then I could not even print any pages using my Corel WordPerfect X7. And then even when I undid the steps, it still would not print, not 2-sided, not 1-sided. So then I played around with the Corel print settings for a long time, but could not get any prages to print. (The Print button would not light up.) I could, however, still print from the Web and email. Somewhere durig this long, frustrating proces of trial and error, I saw a button that said Retireve (in the Corel Print menu). The button was lit up, so I knew it was live. So I clicked on that. I don't know why, but that solved the problem. My HP MFP M227 printer now prints 1-sided pages when I use WordPerfect X7.
I don't know why HP does not sell this printer with the default set on 1-sided printing. That would make life a lot easier for people like me. Anyway, thx for your help.
