My printer duplexes on the wrong side of the page. This is fine if I am using plain paper for it doesn't matter. But there are two exceptions. If I have a pre-printed side and I put it in the paper print side up (pre printed side down) as instructed. The first page is printed on the pre printed side. Also if I have a single page that gets printed while on duplex. it also goes through the duplex and prints on the wrong side. If I use single side printing it is printed correctly.
Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like it's doing exactly what it's supposed to do, per page 22 of the manual.
When you are printing one side from Tray 2, you put the side of the page on which you want the printing to be done face up with the top edge towards the printer.
When you are printing duplex from Tray 2, you put the side of the page on which you want the first page printed face down, with the top edge away from the printer.
Check out the diagrams on page 22 ("Tray 2 paper orientation").

How paper is loaded usually depends on the mechanical paper path in the design of a particular model.
I think that most LaserJet printers require that 'sided' paper (e.g. Letterhead or Prepunched) has to be loaded in the cassette trays in one way for Simplex prints, but a different way for Duplex prints.
Some of these devices offer a feature known as Alternative Letterhead Mode, which (if enabled) allows the paper to always be loaded as for duplex prints, regardless of the plex mode of the print job; the print job must specify a paper type of Letterhead or Prepunched.
The printer achieves this by automatically adding a dummy rear face to simplex pages , and passing the paper through the duplex unit; the downside to this is that simplex thoughput of such media is reduced.
I've no idea whether or not your Laser Jet Pro MFP M477 supports this feature; on a local PageWide Enterprise 556xh the option is available as shown here:

I did try this and it is a workaround if you don't mind slower printing and more wear and tear on your machine. The workaround that I have come up with is to make a print preference for my bulletin covers with prints pages in reverse order. I only have a two-page document so this works. If I used a larger document I think my best option would be to flip the pages. The printer knows whether it is receiving a sing page or multiple page document and this should be automatic as it was in my previous HP printer.

While this might work with one device, my Win 10 DT and MAc print 1st page on the SAME printer the same way (print side face down in a 1 tray only) Same printer by two different Win 10 laptops prints on face side up 1st page. So it would appear to be a queue issue, not a hardware setting. Would also appear that the Win 10 laptops are using as per properties page "This is a web services printer". The DT is using something else because it's device properties has a "front to back" print setting.
