I have had this printer for about 4 years. For the first 2.5 years, it worked perfectly. For the last year and a half it has been adding extra blank space at the top of every page. On landscape printing, the extra space is on the right side of the page. I have tried everything but nothing seems to disallow that extra blank space. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Try updating or switching your print driver from the current to the latest model specific or a Universal Print Driver for your OS. Perhaps your applications or OS has a conflict with the current driver and an update will resolve the issue.
Next step to try would be a firmware update.

Thank you for your suggesstions. I'm not quite sure how or where to get the latest or universal print driver, but I'll try to do as you suggest. As far as firmware updates, does HP provide these? (I was a programmer for many years, but I've never been comfortable or knowwledgeable with hardware and network issues.) Thanks again. I'll try to do as you say.

General steps are as follows:
1. Navigate to http://support.hp.com
2. Search for your printer model
3. Find the Drivers and Downloads area for your OS
4. Review the various options
5. Download the files to your PC
6. Extract the files to a permanent location on your PC
7. Follow any remaining steps to run the installation or perform the update
If UPDs are available for your OS they will be listed in the drivers and downloads area for your printer model. Same goes with the firmware update.

Thank you John_Getzke. I have downloaded and installed the latest print driver and the latest firmware update from HP successfully, but the problem still remains. Whether I print a Word file, Excel file , or anything else, the print preview looks fine, but the top of the page has extra white space and the stuff at the bottom gets cut off.
I can use the fit-to-page option and everything gets reduced and prints on the page, but why does the "regular" print not work as it did for the first few years of this printers lifetime in my home office? It is a quandary.
