My document feeder is not working.  It's not doing anything.  Do I have to install some type of software for the feeder?

if your ADF is not working there is probably something wrong with the machine itself.  Load a piece of paper into the ADF, does it indicate somewhere on the printer that a document is recognized?  You might get a beep, or a light or a message on the display that paper has been detected in the ADF.   If you arent seeing this, chances are your ADF has gone bad and needs to be fixed.  Granted, fixing it is probably more expensive than just buying a new model.

If its your SCANNER having problems, then yes, software could be the issue.  make sure you've installed the complete driver solution, you can do this by going to HPs website-->support/drivers and following the prompts.
