Thouky, thank you for clarifying. I look forward to when they get this fixed. I'm just glad to know they finally have admitted its an error in their end as I spent hours online trying to explain this to HP support and was told that the firmware shouldn't matter... Keep me posted ok? Thanks! 🙂

Hey everyone; does anyone have an update on this? I can't find any resolutions for this issue yet.

It seems that this firmware update is crucial to setting up Scan to Network Folder functions on the printer. Based on my search of the forums, people have been having either no luck in setting up that function without this firmware update, or VERY LIMITED luck in getting it to operate.

Those who do have the latest firmware update (ends with like... "527" or something) seem to have no problem setting up this function.

As such, if anyone has an update as to the progress HP has made with this issue on updating firmware, I would appreciate it. As of today (Feb. 21st, 2016) I have been unable to manually update the firmware on the MFP 277dw's Touchscreen, despite having an internet connection.

Thanks!

No luck here yet either.

I bought an M277 dw yesterday, and yes, I'm having the same problem, not being able to update the firmware.

The last that I heard from HP Support on this subject was on 19th January 2016:

"As this case is elevated to the Level 2 support. this has been reported to the labs now and they are working on to fix this issue. This might take some more time, till then I request to register for any new updates and can do the firmware update manually if new firmware is released with the fix. We appreciate your patience in this regard. Please confirm to close the case."

Helpful; well... hopefully they get that figured out. Not much we can do otherwise, or at least that's what it looks like it. If anyone finds anything on manually updating firmware (through a USB drive or something...) please do post it.

Thanks for all your help everyone!

It looks like this problem has been fixed in the latest firmware (20160129) for the LaserJet Pro M452dn (not MFP). This may be an indication that other models have also been fixed or will be soon...

I just tried the firmware update button on my printer and still got the orbiter could not connect to the service message? Do you need the latest update to make it start working?

I just updated the firmware to the 1/29 version and then checked the firmware update option on the printer itself. It still doesn't work. Same message of not being able to connect to the service.

On my LaserJet Pro M452dn I originally saw the sequence:

Laserjet Update Check for Updates Now
Checking for updates...
Connection error. Check Internet connection. Press [OK] to continue.

It now shows:

Laserjet Update Check for Updates Now
Checking for updates...
No update found.

This was immediately after updating to the 20160129 firmware. However, on further investigation it looks like this difference in behaviour may be due instead to a server-side change.

The printer is still retrieving http://h19005.www1.hp.com/pub/laserjet/updates/gl/manifest, but rather than giving a 301 Moved Permanently status redirecting to http://whp-hou9.cold.extweb.hp.com/pub/laserjet/updates/gl/manifest it now returns the results directly.
