After many months of trying to get the printer to come alive long enough to print anything, it came to life for the first time in 2020 when I pressed the power button an hour or so ago.

I had already downloaded the firmware dmg ( HP_LaserJet_M350_M450_Series_FW_Update_20190306 )

and it ran through to completion. The printer initialized, rebooted and is now active.

Lesson: Don't give up. And don't try some of the suggestions you may read here. If you can one day get your printer to go on and connect, make sure that you have the firmware ready to install. A great printer and it should not be trashed because no one at HP can offer assistance.

LOL! Most impressive! Great determination!

After a few times I would've given up.

So, I guess your motto now is: Never Give Up! Never Surrender!

I never give up.

I had been through the immaculate "return to life" a few times in the past. One of my stumbling successes is actually listed as a solution. Never was, but HP never seemed to care. This forum never seemed to care. Tried to set the record straight. Ignored.

Frequently, a mere reply is put forward with a button to choose that post as a solution. Your reply shows that button.

There is no solution. HP never offered any support except I was told to replace the controller board. I have one that I bought for that purpose. It still sits in a drawer in a file cabinet next to my desk. Just in case. There is no real solution. Only the will of the individual to keep trying their luck.

This is the second HP laser printer to fail. But the only one to be resurrected. Matter of fact, this printer was offered at a 50% discount because the original printer not only failed, it had three major mechanical issues and HP offered no guarantee if one spent 8-10 hours working on it. (Time comes from YouTube posts guiding viewers through the various steps for repair.)

One of tthe reasons I wanted this particular printer to come back to life is that in going through the reviews posted by customers who bought at least five different models and expressed concerns primarily with color rendition and lousy resolution and color for photos. After spending hours adjusting things, my printer was finally calibrated to the point that when I printed images from, say, Photoshop, red finally came out RED, not slightly orang-ish or a bit blue-ish. Other color matters as well. Very important when trying to accurately show how faded directional and location signs are on the airfield of a major airport.

Thanks again for your post. I have one last "proof" to perform: To turn the printer off and see if it actually will turn back on and connect.

Regards...
