I have an ASUS Q537 laptop running Win 11 Home. I have an HP 1522nf printer/scanner hooked up through a docking station. Both printer and scanner functions have worked for several years.  Today I went to print a document and the printer was not seen when I went to select it for printing. I looked at the printer settings and there is an error that states "Driver Error".  Per suggestions online, I turned off the printer, unplugged it from the laptop, unplugged it from power, waited 30 seconds, the powered back up. Same issue. Most of the online descriptions are about the printer working and the scanner not working, so I tried the scanner...and it works perfectly. So the printer is talking to my laptop, but it cannot be added as a print device and I cannot print.  I decided to reboot the laptop and noticed I was being asked to 'install and restart', and, when it cycled through that, I was informed I just went through a Windows 11 update. So I suspect that is the issue, but not sure the best route to fix it.

Hello WScottSutherlan,

Thank you for posting your concern,

I'm here to help with issues related to HP products and services. It seems you're experiencing a "Driver Error" with your HP 1522nf printer/scanner, which is causing it not to be recognized by your computer. Here are some steps you can take to try and resolve this issue:

Troubleshooting Steps:

  1. Reconnect Printer to Docking Station:

    • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the docking station and the docking station is securely connected to your ASUS Q537 laptop.
  2. Update Printer Driver:

    • Go to the HP Support Website and download the latest drivers for your HP 1522nf printer/scanner. Make sure to select Windows 11 as your operating system.
    • Install the new driver following the provided instructions. This may resolve any driver-related errors.
  3. Check Device Manager:

    • Open Device Manager by right-clicking on the Start button and selecting "Device Manager."
    • Look for your printer under "Printers" or "Other devices." If there's a yellow exclamation mark, it indicates a driver issue.
    • Right-click the printer, select "Update driver," then choose "Search automatically for updated driver software."
  4. Remove and Reinstall Printer:

    • Go to "Settings" > "Devices" > "Printers & scanners." Select your HP 1522nf printer and click on "Remove device."
    • After removing, click on "Add a printer or scanner" to reinstall the printer.
  5. Check USB Connections:

    • Ensure that all USB cables are securely connected. Try using a different USB port on your docking station or laptop to rule out port issues.
  6. Run Printer Troubleshooter:

    • Go to "Settings" > "System" > "Troubleshoot" > "Other troubleshooters" and run the printer troubleshooter to detect and fix common printing problems.

If these steps do not resolve the issue, you may need to contact HP Customer Support for further assistance.
