I have had an issue every since I've owned this printer. It doesn't matter if I am printing from my computer or making copies but once in a while I would get a page with no color or sometimes some of the colors, e.g. yellow & blue only.
It wasn't a big problem because it only happened rarely. Today I needed to make color copies of 3 documents and needed 2 copies of each. I made sure my toner was ok and my drum was ok by printing out the supplies report. The problem is that I get the first two copies in color, the other four are completely blank. It seems I can only get a max of 2 copies out in full color and then it shoots out blank pages. I did notice that the 2nd copy that did print tended to be a little darker in some areas of the copy. I also checked my setting for quality, I tried "mixed" then "photo" and finally "film". I also checked my lightness/darkness to make sure they were set at a reasonable setting.
I have to make about 32 more copies of documents and this problem is now happening all the time. I use OEM supplies, so that should not be an issue.
Does anyone have any clue as to why I'm only able to get 2 copies each time I try it and the rest end up as blanks?
Thanks.

Your issue is probably the carousel solenoid. Below is a link on how to repair on the HP 2500 color which has the same engine. You need to do a google search for the service manual for the 2840 and follow the instructions to remove the top cover which will put in the position to following the insructions on the HP2500. Good Luck.

Our 2840 does show the same behavior since a few days (yellow is the only color on the paper when printing in color).
While this video seems to address the source of the problem, it leaves open to me what exactly to fix or replace. Is this about cleaning the contact or applying a special (adhesive?) piece there in addition.
Any link to a manual or documentation that describes the procedure in addtion would be much appreciated!
BTW, this 2840 is running for more than 10 years - it would be such a pity to dispose it because of this. Everything else works like a charm!
Best regards,
Stefan
