Out of curiosity, could it be fixed by just removing and cleaning the plates without using tape or paper between the plates?  Just wondering if it can be done that way.

The problem with not using something in between is that over time the plates will stick together due to magnetism.

Ok thanks, I had an issue come up with that same solenoid and was just wondering if it would cause issues to not put any buffer between the plates.
