Color Laser Jet CM1312nif MFP
Mac OS X 10.11 El Capitan

My HP Color Laser Jet CM1312nfi  MFP is printing 1/4 wide colored lines horizontally across every page. It also makes a haze of blue--what looks like tiny dots spray of ink--vertically down the page mostly on the right side of the page. The black ink cartridge is new, the color ink is on override. As I do not use it and do not want to spend all that money on new cartridges.  Obviously, the printer will not work if I remove the color cartridges. Please, assist.

  • When was the last time the printer was working fine?

Not long ago, maybe January. It started out just printing one black line, now it produces mulitple lines of every color.

  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?NO, I have made no changes to software or hardware. The HP printer is signed up for auto updates, so I have no clue about what it does.

  • Have you performed any troubleshooting steps before posting?

Yes. I have done everything on the document http://hp.care/2pF0fVI multiple times.

Hi @mlcal

Follow below steps and check if it helps.

  1. If the whole page has streaks lines, the print density adjustment may be too light or EconoMode might be turned on. Adjust the print density, and disable EconoMode in the printer properties.

  2. Clean the toner contacts to ensure proper voltage is passed on for toner charging.

Calibrate the printer

Calibration is a printer function that optimizes print quality.

Follow these steps if you experience print quality problems such as colored shadows, blurry graphics or other print quality issues.

  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Setup button

  2. Press the down arrow () to highlight the System Setup menu, and then press OK.

  3. Press the down arrow () to highlight the Print Quality menu, and then press OK.

  4. Press the down arrow () to highlight the Calibrate Color setting, and then press OK.

  5. Press the down arrow () to highlight the Calibrate Now, and then press OK.

A Calibrating message will appear on the printer control panel display. The calibration process takes a few minutes to complete. Do not turn the printer off until the calibration process has finished.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, see the next solution.

Print a cleaning page

During the printing process, paper, toner, and dust particles can accumulate inside the printer and can cause print quality issues such as toner specks, smears, lines or repeating marks.

Follow these steps to clean the printer’s paper path.

  1. On the printer’s control panel, press the Setup button.

  2. Press the down arrow () to highlight Service, and then press OK.

  3. Press the down arrow () to highlight Cleaning Mode, and then press OK.

  4. When prompted, load copier-grade paper (not bond, heavy, or rough paper), and then press OK.

  • If these steps resolved the issue, you do not need to continue troubleshooting.

  • If the issue persists, see the next solution.

Let me know how it goes.

@mlcal

It looks like you were interacting with @the_Fosette, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I'm the Riddle_Decipher & I'm at your service.

It would be wise to tell us what else you've done, so that we don't advise on repeating the steps you've done over and over again,

Please give us a few details about the same as there are multiple steps mentioned on that article shared with you previously or do you mean you've done all the below steps?

  1. Check the paper type setting for your print job
  2. Check print cartridge status
  3. Calibrate the printer
  4. Print a cleaning page
  5. Visually inspect the print cartridge
  6. Check paper and printing environment
  7. Check other print job settings
  8. Try a different printer driver

If that's a yes, I recommend sending a picture of the diagnostic page you've recently printed as a part of step 2: Check print cartridge status,

This would help us determine if this is either a hardware or a software issue, basically, if the diagnostic page contains the lines - it's a hardware malfunction and the print head may require a replacement.

Keep me posted,

If the information I've provided was helpful,

give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!

Good Luck.

Hello-

I have done all of steps 1-8 that you listed. For some reason this is not allowing me to add a picture, I used "insert image" "from my computer" browsed files and chose, but it is not attaching.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.
