Hi, group.

I really need some help here.

Is the HP Color Laser Jet Pro 3202dw easy to connect to a Desktop Mac, running Tahoe?

Is it necessary to download HPSmart (which I did) to make the printer/Mac connection?

Any help will be much, much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Hi @prog4ever

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Yes, the HP Color LaserJet Pro 3202dw connects smoothly to a Mac running macOS (including newer versions such as macOS Tahoe).

The HP App is the recommended way to manage setup and printing, but you can also connect directly through macOS System Preferences without it.

Steps to Connect HP Color LaserJet Pro 3202dw to Mac

  1. Prepare the Printer
  • Ensure the printer is powered on and connected to the same Wi‑Fi network as your Mac.
  • If using USB, connect the cable directly to your Mac.

  1. Add the Printer via macOS
  • On your Mac, open System Settings (or System Preferences in older versions).
  • Select Printers & Scanners.
  • Click the + button to add a printer.
  • Your HP Color LaserJet Pro 3202dw should appear in the list. Select it.
  • Choose AirPrint or the installed HP driver if prompted.

  1. Using the HP App
  • The HP App provides additional features such as scanning, monitoring toner levels, and managing printer preferences.
  • While not strictly required for basic printing, it simplifies setup and offers enhanced functionality.
  • If already installed, open the HP App and follow the guided steps to connect the printer.

  1. Test the Connection
  • Print a test page from your Mac to confirm successful setup.
  • If printing fails, restart both the printer and Mac, then repeat the steps above.

Note:

  • Direct macOS setup works without the HP App.
  • The HP App is useful for advanced features and easier management.
  • Ensure both devices are on the same Wi‑Fi network for wireless printing.
  • USB connection is supported if Wi‑Fi setup is not preferred.

Summary

You can connect the HP Color LaserJet Pro 3202dw to your Mac either through macOS settings or by using the HP App. The HP App is not mandatory but provides a more streamlined experience and access to extra features. For basic printing, macOS’s built‑in printer setup is sufficient.
