LaserJet M281fdw
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The printer goes into Cooling Down mode unexpectedly.  There are no printing jobs and there were no printing jobs for hours.  After going into cooling down mode it does not come out of it ever.  The printer has to be turned off and on again to be used.  It works for a while and after being left alone for some time it enters Cooling Down mode again.  Software and firmware have been updated as recommended to no avail.  Suggestions would be appreciated.  The printer has seen very little use since purchased.

There is absolutely no heat source in the area.  I have executed a NVRAM reset as suggested to address other similar problems (turning the printer off and 30 seconds later turning it back on while touching the lower right corner of the display).  I have not seen any sign of the Cooling Down problem for the last 24 hours, leading me to believe the problem is solved.

Is it sitting anywhere near a heat source? Is it plugged directly into the wall or into a surge protector. Laser printers should be plugged directly into the wall as surge protectors can introduce errors due to power starvation. You could try performing a factory reset, which will be in the resets menu through the control panel.
