I have a HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M277 PCL 6 which has been working perfectly for two years until last week. It no longer prints MS Office documents (Excel, Word or Powerpoint) although it will print PDF, JPG & PNG documents. I did not make any modifications to the OS other than standard Windows updates.
I have tried the following steps before posting on HP Forums:-
- Unplugging the power cable from the printer, waiting 30 seconds, then re-powering the printer (a suggestion from the HP Forum)
- Root-Level printer driver re-installation (another suggestion from the HP Forum)
- Restored the Operating System from a back-up taken 1 week before the problem arose

Hi David,
Success - Accepted Solution!!!
I followed your instructions and on completing the creation of new User Account I was successfully able to print MS Office documents.
On switching back to my original User Account the problem still existed so something was still corrupted with the settings/preferences of this User Account. After tailoring the new account to resemble my old account (less the printing problem) I then deleted the old account.
Many thanks for your assistance in resolving this problem.

Thank you for visiting the HP community and a good day for you. I have reviewed the post and will be delighted to assist you here. Great technical competence and brilliant efforts. Kudos to you for that.
- Did you try a new user account to install the printer drivers?
Let's try these steps:
- Perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-ink-tank-wireless-410-series/16180953/model/16180954/documen... perform steps from the section “Step 1: Reset the printer
- Then update the printer’s firmware by following instructions from this link: https://support.hp.com/bg-en/document/c02919168
- Use a USB cable to update the printer’s firmware connecting it to a computer.
Then try the root-level uninstall and reinstall from these steps:
- Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
- Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
- Go to devices and printers, in the control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
- Click on print server properties.
- You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
- Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
- Restart the PC.
- Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
- Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
- It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
- If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
- Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
- Restart the PC again.
- Then create a new local user account as an administrator from this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/instantanswers/5de907f1-f8ba-4fd9-a89d-efd23fee918c/create-a-loc...
Log into the new user account after restarting your computer.
- Then download the latest full feature driver from https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/LaserJet-Printing/HP-Color-LaserJet-Pro-MFP-M277-PCL-6-not-printing-MS... and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.
- Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.
- This should fix the issue.
- If the issue continues, then install the basic drivers from the same driver's page and it should work.
Good luck and keep me posted about the developments. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue and give the post a Kudos for my efforts to help. Thank you and have a great week ahead. 🙂
