After reinstalling and replacing the pad on the solenoid, I am trying to reinsert the ink cartridges.  When I rotate the carousel  with the rotate button on the console,  the next cartridge slot does not line up to the insert cartridge slot. I appears to be off

about 1/2 inch.  If I continue to rotate the carousel it stops again about 1/2 inch from the correct position.

Can I get help resolving this problem.

Thank you.

are you positive the solenoid was reinstalled correctly? that solenoid releases the carousel allowing it to rotate so i'd start there and recheck.  inspect the carousel assembly itself too. sometimes they get hair line fractures that throw off the whole operation.  You'll usually see them near the guides for the toner.

Is the carousel out the same amount on both the left and right? If not then one side is out one or two teeth on the gearing and that will result in difficulty when trying to install cartridges.

Thank you for your response.  I have determined that the carousel is out of alignment by maybe 3 cogs on

the left side and 2 on the right side.  My question now is how do I fix this.  According to the video by Chris

Galasso, I should pull the large, black mesh gear on the right side toward the center of the printer.  Is this

correct ?

And then what should I do about the left side ?  Also pull it to the center of the printer and realign according

to the HP 2840 Service Manual for alignment of carousel on page 203 ?

Follow the service manual instructions even if it means having to go through the disassembly steps again. Forcing the gears may cause irreparable damage.

The easy way to align carousel is that you don't need to take everything apart to get to it.

Look into the video. Be care for not breaking the tooth.

Of course you need  Service Manual  and find out the mark to align with.

Apone,

Thank you for your reply to my query.  I don't see how the solenoid could be installed incorrectly.  There

is only one position in the limited space where it is positioned and operates.  By inserting the red, plastic straw,

I am able in disengage the locking mechanism and release the carousel in order for it to rotate.  I start out with

yellow locked in the correct position, but when I advance the carousel to magenta, the slot to insert the next

cartridge is slightly off.  Can you explain how the solenoid might be installed incorrectly?

When all four cartridges are installed, the monitor display reads "Install Supplies" with ? ? ? ? marks on the

display.

Repairtrooper,

I am taking your advice and going through the disassembly process to see if I can correct my carousel problem.

When I got to the removing the formatter cage on the right side (Page 180 in the service manual) I am unable to

disconnect the bundle wire connector to the the PC board.  This has 11 wires going into a white, plastic connector which

is attached to the PC board.

To disconnect this wire bundle, do I pull on the wires or do I try to disconnect the white plastic connector on the

PC board?

I was able to disconnect the other 5 connectors.  But this one appears to be different.

Any suggestions?  Thanks.

There is one small hole and a slot on the top and at each end of the white, plastic connector which goes to the

formatter cage.  The slot opening locks the connector in place and the smaller hole is used to gain

access to the larger slot and locking mechanism.  Insert a small pointer into the smaller hole to get

to and release the locking mechanism.

When disconnecting the Laser/Scanner Assembly on  my HP 2640,  the three purple wires on the right side disconnected

easily from the device.  But on left side, where there are four purple wires encased in a black plastic connector, I am

unable to disconnect it.

A similar connecting device is located when removing the air duct and fan (Page 223).

Does anyone know how to disconnect this black connecting device?
