HP Color Laserjet CP1215
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The manuals do have show this series of error lights

I am trying to determine what this error condition means to decide whether it's worth fixing.

It sounds like your yellow cartridge needs to be replaced at least because it is at end of life. Replace it and see what happens. I suspect it's saying there's a problem and it's your yellow cartridge.

Also make sure all the doors are shut fully.

By using the HP Print and Scan Doctor, I am able to force an internal self-test to print, which indicates that there is plenty of toner in the yellow cartridge. HP Support says it's most likely the sensor that isn't recognizing the cartridge properly and since the printer is approx. 12 years old it's not worth spending too much time and effort on.

I understand that there is toner in the cartridge, how much though is undetermined, as is the life of the cartridge may be reporting at end of life too. Typically printer sensors don't fail (I've never found one yet after 30+ years working on lasers), but toner cartridges and their memory chips do, and often, though HP brands are much more reliable than 3rd party ones, they can still go bad. Can you press the Proceed button on the printer to make it go? Otherwise I'd replace the toner cartridge as I find replacing them most times fixes those kind of issues with my customers.

HP Recommended

No, pressing the continue button does nothing.

And since the printer is approx. 12 years old, I'm not going to spend $150.00 on a cartridge just to see if that may fix the problem.

I'll just replace the printer.
