hp laserjet 1320 laser printer

just got the printer second handed.  It prints fine to the 'straight through' output bin on the back of the printer, but when i pull the lever to change the print direction to the top output bin-the normal place where print should go - the little orange triangle guy with the exclamation point flashes....  setting the direction to the back and it works fine again - need to be able to have the paper end up on top of the printer as norma.

thanks for the quick reply - the answer helped me understand the real issue, which is I am MISSING the entire back cover. as I noted, i just got this and the cover did not come along.... at least I know now. perhaps I can find one 2nd handed. thanks!
