HP Laser Jet P1606 dn

HP Laser Jet P1606 dn doesn't work with Mac OS High Sierra 10.13.2.  No printer software available from HP yet?  When will it be available.  Bummer not having my printer available.

I went to this website:  https://support.hp.com/bg-en/product/hp-laserjet-pro-p1606-printer-series/4110408/model/4110409/docu... and found following Step 2 got my printer working again.  Hooray!  Hope it helps others as well.

Step 2: Reset the printer

Resetting power to the printer forces the printer to reset stored values in the firmware. A power reset can help when the printer is not accepting communication from the Mac.
  1. Make sure the printer is idle, not making any sounds, before continuing.
  2. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  4. Wait at least 60 seconds.
  5. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  6. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
  7. If the printer does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.
  8. Try printing again and note what happens.
    • If the printer prints, you can stop troubleshooting.
    • If the print job becomes stuck again, continue to the next step.

Here is the error message I get:

You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose App Store… from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in App Store…, contact the manufacturer of your printer.

I just tried to print something again and had the same problem.  Is there a software update from HP for Mac OS High Sierra Version 10.13.2.  Here is a page that shows what updates are available:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-laserjet-pro-p1606-printer-series/4110408/model/..., but as you will see, there is nothing for the version I am running.

It looks like you were interacting with The_Fosette, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.I reviewed your concern and the entire conversation, did some research and here's what I recommend.

Since there are no latest drivers for your HP LaserJet Pro P1606dn Printer, I suggest you install the Printer Driver Using Apple Software Update.

Try these steps.

  1. Click the Apple menu, then click System Preferences.

  2. Depending on your operating system version, click Print & Fax, Print & Scan, or Printers & Scanners.

Example of the Printers & Scanners window
  3. Check if the name of your printer displays in the Printers list. Do one of the following steps, depending on if the printer is listed or not.

    • If your printer is listed, remove and re-add the printer to confirm communication and to make sure the correct driver is used. Click the name of your printer, then click the minus sign  to delete the printer. Once the printer is removed, click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

    • If your printer is not listed, click the plus sign, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the name of your printer, then continue to the next step.

  4. Click the Use or Print Using menu, then select the name of your printer

  5. Click Add to add the printer to the list.

  6. If you are prompted to install software, click Download and Install to complete the installation.

  7. Close the System Preferences window.

Restart your printer and device and try printing.

Let me know how it goes.

Thank you. 🙂

I'm having the same issue.  Tried all the above suggestions.  No luck. The printer takes forever and usually it only prints a tiny fraction of the page. Sometimes it spits out a dozen pages for a one page job. My Laser jet CP1025 NW seems to work. HP test print page works fine. When do you expect to have the driver ready?

I get an error message at the Apple Store saying there is no software available for this device.  I have taken my machine into the Apple Store and they have checked it out and pinpointed the problem as being no software download from HP for IOS Mac High Sierra, Version 10.13.2.  This has been ongoing since December 22 and getting extremely frustrating.  Why is there no upgraded for this IOS?
