After installing the printer it worked for some time.  Now I frquently have to shut the printer and restart it in order for it to be recognized.  It is connected by ethernet cable to my verizon fios router.  I use a static IP address and have tried every suggestion I can find.

Thank you for your reply.  The solutions you suggested are for wireless.  I am connected to my router by ethernet cable.

@rlfrank, thank you for your reply, I'll be more than glad to help you.

I understand that your printer is connected the wired network.

This issue could occur if the unit goes to sleep mode or auto power off mode.

Please follow the steps provided below to delay the sleep mode and auto power off option.

Steps to Set the sleep delay:

1. From the Home screen, touch the Setup button.

2. Open the following menus:

● System Setup

● Energy Settings

● Sleep Delay

3. Select the time for the sleep delay.

NOTE: The default value is 15 minutes.

Steps to Set the Auto Power Down delay:

1. From the Home screen, touch the Setup button.

2. Open the following menus:

● System Setup

● Energy Settings

● Auto Power Down

● Power Down Delay

3. Select the time for the power-down delay.

NOTE: The default value is 30 minutes.

4. The product automatically wakes from the auto power-down mode when it receives jobs or when you use a button on the control panel. You can change which events cause the product to wake.

Open the following menus:

● System Setup

● Energy Settings

● Auto Power Down

● Wake Events To turn off a wake event, select the event and then select the No option.

Let me know if this works.

I hope you have a good day ahead.

This problem did not exist when the printer was new, the appeared, then disappeared.  There was firmware upgrade a month or two ago and the problem reappeared.  Thank you for your help, but the warranty is over and HP support does not seem to be interested.

Hi rlfrank,

I have similar problem with same model printer.  Did you ever find a solution?

After November firmware "upgrade," now my printer must be rebooted several times/day.  Connection is lost to computer thru wire and drops from wireless network.  After power down and up, all is fine for a while.  Have restarted printer, computer, router.  Have reloaded driver.  Have changed cables, ports, etc.

Printer went offline as I typed.

Dear HP:

You just lost your "badge" because you are unresponsive.  You provide virtually no help on support.hp.com.  Most of your links go to a page that tells us, "Error 404: There is no content available."  You assume that product users will help one another while we are still customers of HP.  You used to do better.

Sadly,
