Hi,
The M1536 printer offer USB and Ethernet connectivity only, it do not offer any wifi capabilities and therefore do not have any such light.
To connect the printer to your network connect an ethernet cable from the printer to your router.
You may find the product specifications below, see the STANDARD CONNECTIVITY section:

Speaking of HP LaserJet 1536 connecting to a network...
My LJ 1536 was working fine connected to my cable/wifi router, accepting jobs (print & scan) from a desktop, laptop, and at least one iDevice that I tested (using HP's iOS app). Then one day it stopped, which may coincidentally been at the same time that the network cable got yanked out of the jack on the back of the printer. Now, when I try to plug the network cable back into the printer, it does not click into place, and the printer does not appear as an accessible device.
Is it possible that the network port got damaged if/when the cable was yanked out? Is this likely to be a physical condition that might be fixable if I access the innards of the printer? Is it conceivable that I could swap out the network jack/card on the 1536 with the jack/card from a 1522 that I have laying around unused?
Any input will be greatly appreciated!

TornadoJoe84,
It is definitely possible that the network port got damaged, but it's also possible that the CABLE is damaged, which is a MUCH easier fix. Try a new cable.
If that doesn't work, it's very possible that the network port is damaged. This port is soldered onto the formatter board.
How good are you with a soldering iron? It's a doable job, if you can find a new plug that fits.
Refurbished formatter boards are also available for that machine. I did some Googling, and found this:
Good Luck!
