HP LaserJet 1018
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP LaserJet 1018 printer was printing fine before the Windows 10 major update on Oct 22, 2017.  After this update, this printer now will not print.  Microsoft technician did all they could do remotely but problem not fixed.  Error message is, " Older printer with USB 2.0 may not work on USB 3.0 port."  However, it DID work with Windows 10 prior to this update.

Does HP have a solution for this problem??

@Sweetnicks

Thanks for reaching out to us on HP Support Forums. I came across your post and would like to assist.

I understand that you have an HP LaserJet 1018 Printer and post an update on Win10, the printer no longer works. I appreciate the steps you have performed and have certainly done a good job.

This seems like a driver corruption issue. I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Please download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor software. This is a free tool for Windows to help resolve issues with the printer drivers.

This should make the printer work. If the issue persists then let us try to install the inbuilt print drivers from the Win10 operating system: http://hp.care/2nxKJv8

NOTE: You may follow the steps mentioned under "Step 3: Install the print driver with the Add a Printer wizard".

I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. Let me know the outcome. Cheers! 🙂

I updated my WIndows 10 computer to the 2017 Creators Fall Upate recently. Since then, although the HP1018 Laserjet is correctly connected via USB and is reported as being 'visible' by HPdiagnostics, it will not print anything.

I have run all the tests on the latest version of the utility HPPSdr.exe and everything is detected according to that - but nothing will print.

When I try to print anything, the task bar icon which monitors printing shows '0 documents' waiting in the queue. It is as though the queue isn't even being propulated. The spooler service is running OK.

I have exactly the same issue. Suggested fix has been followed to the leter twice now and does not work.

When trying to download a new devide driver, the Laserjet 1018 is not on the list...1015 is but that is as close as you can get.

HOW WILL THIS BE FIXED?

I fixed it by following the advice of HELLOHA in post 7 of the forum below:

HP should employ this guy as he seems to know what he is doing and is useful, though that might break a few of the HP rules.
