I'm having issues installing my old but perfectly working HP laserjet 1018 on my new HP laptop running Windows 10 (64).
This is the second time I'm facing similar challenges where in the previous attempt one of the workaround offered in this Knowledge base worked and I was able to add the device to my printer list on a lenovo laptop.
While there are are enough people complaining about the issues and some claim success following your solutions I truly believe it would be beneficial for all including to HP, if a one time effort of loading a working driver to you website and even better to Windows driver update library and save the agony and frustration for you client base.
If someone from your support team takes the time and research the topic and the confusion around it, they will clearly see the collective waste of efforts to make something that should be so straightforward become such a headache.
for the time being, I'm still stuck and no matter what I cannot add the printer. Windows shows it under "Software devices" in the "Device manager" but not in the printer list. "Update Driver" does not seem to work (worked in my previous attempt when installing on Lenovo machine).
thoughts? advice?

HP LaserJet 1018 Printer does not have drivers for Windows 10.
However, Windows contains built-in print drivers for many types of printers. These drivers support basic printer functionality for most print jobs.
Follow the steps in this document: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879 for Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver.
Keep me posted, how it goes!
