Most print jobs work, but not 4x6 cards.  Print job does not center, so I only get the right half of the page on the card.

Hi @Porkov,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet 1320 is having trouble printing 4x6 cards, with print jobs not centering correctly. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Check paper size settings in the printer driver

Open Devices and Printers → HP LaserJet 1320 → Printing Preferences.

Set Paper Size to 4x6 in or Custom (101.6 x 152.4 mm).

Make sure the tray selected matches where you loaded the cards.

Adjust page layout in the application

In the program you’re printing from (Word, Photoshop, etc.), check Page Setup → Paper Size matches 4x6.

Set Margins to minimum or zero if possible to ensure content fits the card.

Use Manual Feed / Rear Tray if available

Load the 4x6 cards in the manual feed tray, if your printer has one.

Select the correct source tray in the printer properties.

Check scaling options

In Print dialog, make sure Scale to Fit or Fit to Page is enabled.

Avoid “Actual Size” if the content exceeds the printable area.

Print a test page

Create a small test file centered on 4x6 dimensions.

This will help verify whether the issue is with the printer or the document/application settings.

Update or reinstall the printer driver

Download the latest HP LaserJet 1320 driver from HP’s site.

A full feature driver can correct page positioning issues with custom sizes.

I hope this helps.

I have done all of these things and the trouble persists. I have the same result with my HP Color LaserJet MFP M283f

Hi,

Thanks for the detailed follow-up — that helps narrow this down a lot.

Since the same 4×6 centering issue occurs on both the HP LaserJet 1320 and the Color LaserJet MFP M283f, this strongly points to a driver and print-pipeline limitation, not a hardware fault.

Here’s what’s actually happening and how to work around it.

Print 4×6 centered on a Letter page (most reliable)

In your application, set the document size to Letter (8.5 × 11)

Place your 4×6 content manually centered on the page

In Printer Preferences:
• Paper Size: Letter
• Scaling: 100%
• No “Fit to Page”

Load the 4×6 card in the center of the tray, aligned as Letter

This forces the printer to keep its margin logic intact and prints correctly.

Create a custom paper size with margins

Open Printer Properties → Advanced → Printing Defaults

Create a Custom Paper Size:
• Width: 4 in
• Height: 6 in
• Margins: at least 0.25 in on all sides

Select this custom size in both:
• Application Page Setup
• Printer Preferences

Zero margins will fail — LaserJets cannot honor them.

I hope this helps.
