HP LaserJet Pro 1606dn
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

We have an HP LaserJet Pro 1606dn which is connected to the network via ethernet cable and has a static IP address 192.168.1.47. Currently printing works fine from linux and the Mac. But we're experiencing serious problems with WIndows 10. After updating the firmware and reinstalling the latest drivers and rebooting, we still get the infamous and dreaded "Attention Required" response. After stopping the print spooler and restarting, we are able to sometimes print but this is absolutely horrendous and totally unacceptable.  We are not able to add a new port since it's grayed out. Currently, it's using WSD as the port. Please help.

Hi,

Please try following the HP Print and Scan Doctor below by selecting Fix Printing and check if that may help:

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/printers/hppsdr/patches/HPPSdr.exe

Once you launch the tool ensure it shown HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.0.3.

If it may show version 5.1 by any chance please let me know.

No, this does not solve the problem.

  1. I downloaded version 5.0.3 and ran it.
  2. It claims that it cannot find the printer HP LaserJet 1606dn
  3. I then hit Retry
  4. It finds two printers both named HP 1606 dn, one with a driver installed which I ignore and one without a driver.
  5. I click on the "Not Installed" printer, and download the printer driver (about 143.3 MB)
  6. I run the Driver utility. It extracts up to 100% and then goes silent. No feedback nothing. Reboot does nothing.
  7. I've done this more than 10 times now to the same non effect.
  8. On a separate note, I've tried changing the port to the correct IP address (192.168.1.47) by following the instructions at https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05087973. Works for a while and then the errors return.
  9. My feeling is that I'm not able to install the advanced driver from HP (the 143.3 MB file) and that's the source of the problem.
