HP LaserJet M203dw
macOS 10.13 High Sierra

My HP LaserJet M203dw has started spontaneously printing Wi-Fi Direct PIN codes.

This happened three times over about 12 hours before I unplugged the printer.

When this happened I wasn't using any computer, much less the printer. (In fact, I hadn't used the printer in days, probably weeks.)

Each printout says:

“The current Wi-Fi Direct PIN code for this printer is:

    ******** ((an eight-digit number))

“This PIN code will be valid for 90 seconds after this report has been printed.

“When prompted, enter this PIN on your computer or mobile device to connect to this printer using Wi-Fi Direct.”

This is extremely annoying and a waste of paper. Any idea why this suddenly started happening (about 18 months after I started using the printer)? Any idea how can I prevent it?

@pat271, Welcome to HP Support Community!

I suggest you perform a Printer Reset

(1) Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.
(2) Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.
(3) With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
(4) Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
(5) Wait at least 60 seconds.
(6) Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
NOTE: HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.
(7) Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
(8) Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
The printer might go through a warm-up period. The printer lights might flash, and the carriage might move.
Wait until the warm-up period finishes and your printer is idle and silent before you proceed

Also update the Firmware from this Link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-deskjet-2600-all-in-one-printer-series/12319824/...

Then try disabling the WiFi-Direct once again.

If it doesn't work we will disable the WiFi-Direct from the EWS Page

- Print a Network Config Page from the printer. Note the printer's IP address.

- Press the Wireless button and the Information button at the same time to print the Network Configuration Page

- Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
- Choose the Networking tab, then disable WiFi-Direct and Save

The printer should not print any pages now.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.
