LaserJet P1006
macOS 10.14 Mojave

Since I've updated to MacOS 10.14.2 Mojave, I am unable to print using my HP LaserJet P1006. It keeps telling me, "Can't install the software because it is not currently available from the Software Update service." The solution provided by MKazi January 25, 2018 for this same printer using with the macOS 10.13 High Sierra contained the HP Easy Start program link. Unfortunately, that did not fix my problem.

Can anyone please help?

A warm welcome to HP Community!

As per this document, HP LaserJet P1006 Printer is compatible with macOS 10.14 Mojave and the driver is available via Apple Software Update. If the printer is already connected to the Mac using a USB cable then you may use the steps below to add a compatible driver:

1.) Use the steps available here to update the software on Mac.

2.) Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.

3.) Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.

4.) If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button  at the bottom of the list.

5.) Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.

6.) Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.

Select the name of your printer in the Use menu

7.) Try to print.

Let me know how it goes!

Hello:

I think that was a partial solution but am getting another related problem now. It worked once but now when I try to print it  takes from 10 to 20 minutes to "send it to the printer." Do you know why that might be? Something isn't right yet.

Any further suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you.

It looks like you were interacting with senan6806, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out.

Appreciate all your efforts.

Update the firmware for the printer using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-laserjet-p1006-printer/3435682/document/c02919168

Restart the printer.

Assign Manual IP to the printer

1) Print a Network configuration page from the printer's control panel.

2) Look for IP address from the Network configuration page.

3) Open a web browser or any other browser that you are using.

4) Type the IP address mentioned on Network configuration page into the browser's address bar or URL bar and press enter button.

5) Go to the Network tab.

6) Click on Networking from the left pane.

7) Then click on Network Address (IP).

😎 Click on Manual IP Address and go to suggest a Manual IP.

9) Scroll down the screen and select Manual DNS server.

10) Enter the Primary and secondary DNS server from the Network Configuration page into the Manual Preferred DNS server field.

11) Click on Apply.

Refer to the video link for step by step instructions - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCnYyq80V9g

Note: The video is for win 8 but steps are similar for other operating systems as well. You need to enter the IP address in the browser's URL or the address bar to access the printer page.

Keep me posted, how it goes!

I continued to have problems with the printer disconnecting and when trying to add it back I'd get the "could not connect to the server" message. The firmware link did not contain the right model to operating system choice which was frustrating. Since I didn't have a printer showing up I was unable to get an IP address for it as suggested. I finally stumbled across a solution although the lag time for printing a pdf is still crazy -- maybe five minutes or more. Anyway, I followed the steps provided at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bsRcYicD3Y and was then able to add the printer back. It was not intuitive but I'm happy to have a solution for the time being. I'll probably be looking for a different printer soon as my patience is wearing thin. 😞

Thank you.

Glad to hear that you got the printer working. Printing the PDF file as an image may improve the printing speed, you may use the steps available here to print the PDF file as an image.

If you ever require any technical assistance, feel free to reach out to us. Have a great day!
