I've owned my HP LaserJet P1102w for several years and it has been great. I just changed routers so had to reconfigure the wireless connection to the printer (which I have done many times before) and now, I can't print!
After configuring the wifi from HTML Config in my browser, I have a solid blue light indicating a wifi connection. Yet, the printer doesn't show up in the Add Printer list. I'm trying on a MacBook Pro running MacOS 10.10 and a MacBook Air running 10.14.
I have followed every instruction here too:
https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printers-Archive-Read-Only/SOLVED-LaserJet-P1102W-will-not-connect-to-...
I tried updating the printer firmware (HP Firmware Upgrade Utility.app) but my Mac wont let me open it (despite being configured to allow apps downloaded from anywhere). I also tried HP Easy Start.app which doesn't even seem to recognize the P1102w.
Like I said, I've had this printer for years and have had no issues until now. I hope someone can guide me towards a solution. Thank you!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!
- Make sure the printer is connected to a 2.4GHz network if your new router supports Dual band.
Step 1: Restart the network devices.
- Turn off the Router, Printer, and computer.
- Wait for 60 seconds.
- Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
- Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
- Turn on the computer.
Step 2: Check for any firewall/security programs if blocking the printer.
Step 3: Clean Uninstall and reinstall the HP driver and software
Some HP software components might have installed incorrectly, even if the printer setup failed. Remove and reinstall the software to clear any possible issues.
Disconnect the USB cable from the printer, if necessary.
Click Finder
in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Applications, and then open the HP or Hewlett Packard folder.
If HP Uninstaller is in the folder, double click it to uninstall the software, and then skip to the step to prepare the printer for the driver installation.
If HP Uninstaller is not in the folder, continue to the next step.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
In the menu bar, click Go, click Go to Folder, type /Library/Printers, and then click Go.
Click and drag the HP or Hewlett Packard folder to the Trash icon in the Dock.
Right-click or Ctrl + click the Trash icon, and then select Empty Trash.
Step 4: Use AirPrint drivers
- Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
- Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign
to delete the printer.
- If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button
at the bottom of the list.
- Click the plus sign
, click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
- Click the Use or Print Using menu, select AirPrint in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
- Try to print.
Let me know how this goes.

Hi Kumar, Thanks for the response. I followed every step and my printer is connected to the 2.4ghz wifi as confirmed with the the blue light and the MAC address. Despite that, the printer doesn't appear when I try adding a printer. There is no AirPrint option. (see photos below)
I have made all the updates to the computer and the Print Queue (when connected to USB) still tells me that "Some of the software for the printer is missing."
When I try, to update the printer software within Print Queue, I still get this error:
"You need to install software to use this printer. To install the software, choose Software Update from the Apple menu. If the software for your printer isn’t available in Software Update, contact the manufacturer of your printer." (see photo below)
Not sure what to do. Despite following your instructions, nothing has changed. Is there any chance I can speak to someone on the phone? Thank you!
The printer doesn't appear.
I'm connected to my wifi.
Perpetual cycle of printer updates I can't make.

Let us try resetting the printer to factory defaults and then installing the printer using Apple software update.
Step 1: Restore the product to the factory default settings
1. Turn the product off.
2. Press and hold the wireless button and the cancel button, and then turn the product on.
3. Hold the buttons until all the lights blink in unison, and then release the buttons.
4. Any network settings on the printer are now reset. Your printer remains in setup mode for 2 hours.
5. On the router, press and hold the WPS button for 3 to 5 seconds or until it shows that the WPS connection process has started.
6. Once the printer is connected, the blue Wireless light stops blinking and remains on.
Step 2: Add the printer on MAC
1. Use the steps available here to update the software on Mac.
2. Click the Apple menu, click System Preferences, and then click Print & Scan or Printers & Scanners.
3. Check if your printer name displays in the Printers list, If your printer is listed, click the printer name, click the minus sign to delete the printer.
4. If you see multiple printer queues for the same printer, remove all extra printers by selecting them one at a time, and then clicking the minus button at the bottom of the list.
5. Click the plus sign , click Add Printer or Scanner, click the printer name.
6. Click the Use or Print Using menu, select the name of your printer in the pop-up menu. Then click Add.
7. Try to print.
Let me know how this goes.
