Hi! @Ben65, Thanks for stopping by the HP Support Forums!

I understand your printer is stuck at the initializing screen.

Don't worry I'll try to help you out.

Did you make any changes to your printer?

Excellent description and a great diagnosis done. It is greatly appreciated.

Sometimes an error message persists even though there is no packing material or jammed paper inside the printer. Resetting the printer might resolve the error.

  1. Turn the printer on, if it is not already on.

  2. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you continue.

  3. With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

  4. Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

  5. Wait at least 60 seconds.

  6. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.

    NOTE:

HP recommends connecting the printer power cord directly to the wall outlet.

  7. Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.

  8. Turn on the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.

  9. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.

Try restoring the printer to defaults and check if it helps.

Restore Defaults

  1. Press OK to open the menus.
  2. Use the Left arrow or the Right arrow button to select the Service menu, and then press the OK (Select) button.
  3. Use the left arrow or the right arrow button to select Restore defaults, and then press the OK button. The product automatically restarts.

If the issue still persists after trying out the steps try performing an NVRAM reset on your printer and check if it helps.

As the steps to perform an NVRAM reset is confidential and dedicated to your printer.  I will share you the steps in private message.

Please watch your inbox for more information.

Hope this helps!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

Well actually, several people use this printer from several machines, and it turns out someone had a failed print that had clogged up the system. When I logged in with user rights and deleted the offending job, it seemed to clear the problem.

Thanks for getting back to me though.
