Hello there. I just shipped a Laserjet 3550 to someone. It was working fine when I tested it, but when it arrived, the guy told me the screen reads "59.99 Printer errror, to continue, turn off then on". When he restarts, the printer shows the the same error message. He's not able to navigate the LCD screen or print a test page. The printer hasn't been connected to a computer yet. There doesn't appear to be any physical damage to the printer, and it was packed carefully. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is not a good error. It can be fixed but is a lot of work and you will need the service manual and good mechanical skills. Basically the secondary transfer roller solenoid is sticking and needs to be repaired. Getting to the solenoid is the issue since it is mounted on the paper pickup assembly which is very hard to remove from the printer. Once the assembly is removed the solenoid needs to be removed and the dampening material that was put on the solenoid when first made needs to be removed since all that is left of it is the glue that held it in place which causes the solenoid to stick. Once the material is removed new material needs to be put down in place. Usually a thin piece of velcro makes a good pad. See the attached for the location of the solenoid.

This is a very old printer and not many people work on it anymore. An experinced tech could do a good job in about 1.5 hours so you will need to find out how much they charge per hour where the printer is located and if it is feasible to spend the money or just chalk it up to bad luck.
