My HP Laserjet P2015 just started printing with the ink smearing.  From reading the forums, I take it it's either the toner cartridge or the fuser.  Is this correct?

On normal paper, it appears to print ok but the ink does smear a little to the touch.  However, if I print on a laser shipping label, it comes out completely smeared.  I have been using this same shipping label for years with no problem but now it smears.  I do use the manual feed tray for the labels.

I have attached a picture of the problem.

Any help would be appreciated.

If the toner is bonded in some areas and not others likely it is the fuser. Look at the bottom of the toner cartridge, if there is toner on the drum unit (blue green cylinder) then it might be that too much toner is being deposited, Times like this a spare cartridge is a godsend for diagnostics. But based on the age of the printer, fuser is quite likely. Make sure you are connected to directly to a wall outlet and do not have a high current devices like a portable heater attached to the same circuit as that can starve the printer for power and prevent the fuser from reaching the correct temperature.
