For some reason the firmware upgrade failed when updating my work Laserjet P2055dn. I have the correct/most recent firmware installer, booted printer in boot mode, and everytime I run the send firmware installer it shows USBcnt=0 error and I can not find anywhere how to troubleshoot this. Intermitently it will download data, and then I get a bad FLASH Burn, Power Cycle error. After a few minutes it shows a smiley face on the installer, however the printer does not get the update. Does anyone have any direction/solution to reflash the firmware with these errors? I have followed the HP instructions exactly, plus added my own expertise with a variety of methods, however it always fails. I have the drivers already loaded and Windows recognizes the printer.

Hi Ljc,
You try to uninstall the existing drivers for the printer completely from Windows 7.
Then reinstall with old driver for HP Laserjet P2050/2055. It’s “upd-pcl6-x64-6.0.0.18849” version (HP Universal Printing PCL6 Driver).
You can search and download it at:
ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/UPD/
Hope this helps.
Note: I'm not woker of HP.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunetly this did not work, it gave me the same error. I would be willing to flash it with anything that would get it to work at this time, regardless of how old it is. Any other thoughts? I am using the hp park to remove the drivers, but I am not sure if all the old HP drivers are getting removed.

Hi Ljc,
To uninstall the existing drivers for the printer completely from Windows, you try follow these steps:
- Turn off printer.
- In the “Devices and Printers” look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device".
- In “Programs and Features”, look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Uninstall" or "Remove ".
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on “Drivers” tab, look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom. Select OK. Then select Apply and OK on the “Print Server Properties” windows. Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart computer.
- Run “upd-pcl6-x64-6.0.0.18849” file, select “USB mode plug and play”.
- Turn on printer and wait windows know your printer, then restart computer.
- Go “Devices and Printers” again, if you see “HP Laserjet P2055 Series” and “HP Universal Printing PCL6”, righ click “HP Laserjet P2055 Series”, choose"Remove Device", windows will remove both printers.
- Turn off printer and restart computer once again.
- Turn on printer and wait Windows know your printer. If Windows only know your printer is “HP Universal Printing PCL6” is OK.
If Windows still know “HP Laserjet P2055 Series” and “HP Universal Printing PCL6”, you repeat 10-12 steps. Sometimes you must repeat several times to solve this problem!
Good luck!

Thank you again for your reply.
I was able to delete all the drivers, and using the ftp I tried multiple different driver firmware flashes. Same error everytime. I even tried PCL5 and PS drivers with the flash. It is ironic that the HP firmware program gives you a smiley face as if it worked. So my final fix.. we had another P2055dn that we replaced yesterday due to the fuser was destroyed. I originally was going to swap out the fusers, but on a whim I ended up swapping out the formatter boards. Switching the formatter board was way easier than taking 2 fusers out to swap. And like magic the printer works.
The part I still don't understand is.. Does the RFU need to be changed or can it be changed after a bad flash? There is no way to get to the RFU setting on the P2055 when the B0601 error occurs.
Thanks for your help.
