Let me take a moment to thank you for posting on the HP Support Forums.

I understand that your clients have an HP LaserJet Pro M177fw MFP All-in-One printer and a message pops up on the screen saying it is overheating and stops printing. Not to worry as I have some suggestions.

To provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • Is the printer kept is a closed environment and maybe with less ventilation?
  • Do you print a lot of documents?
  • If the printer is left idle for some time then does it resume printing?

Meanwhile, I did some research and found the following information about the print speed of this printer:

I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.

Also, please perform a firmware update on this printer depending on the operating system in use. Use this link to find a firmware update

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know. Cheers!

Most laser printers do have a fan on the side of the machine to help to extract the heat from the machine.I would remove the side covers and see if such fan is attached to machine. It might be if the fan is attached that it does not run properly to do the cooling.Maybe run i few test with the covers of and see if machine still over heats.

Hope that this will help.
