I have a HP Laserjet Pro MFP M29w printer/scanner. I have a new Windows 11 Dell laptop. My printer / scanner prints fine. It scans a document but intermittently does not produce an image of file of the scanned document.

Hi @oscar189,

I understand how it must be to have your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M29w scan intermittently on your new laptop especially when printing works fine but scanning doesn’t consistently produce a file.
Could you please confirm whether you’re using the HP Smart app or the Full Feature Software and Drivers package for scanning? Also, are you scanning over Wi‑Fi or via a USB connection?
Here are a few steps you can try :
Update HP Smart: Ensure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app installed from the Microsoft Store. Outdated software can cause intermittent scanning issues.
Check Windows Updates: Make sure your Windows 11 system is fully updated, as driver compatibility often depends on the latest patches.
Run HP Smart App : This tool from HP can automatically detect and fix common scanning problems.
Try USB connection: If you’re currently scanning over Wi‑Fi, test with a direct USB connection to see if the issue persists.
Verify default scan folder: Sometimes scans complete but the file is saved to an unexpected location. Double‑check your scan destination settings in HP Smart.
Reinstall drivers: Fully uninstall the printer software, restart your laptop, and reinstall the latest drivers from HP’s support website https://support.hp.com/ .
If the issue continues after these steps, please let me know whether the scanner shows any error messages or if the job appears to complete but no file is created. That distinction will help us pinpoint whether it’s a software glitch or a communication issue between the printer and your laptop.
I hope this helps.

Can anyone help me with this scanner issue? The printer scans the doc but does not produce an image. I installed the HP Laserjet Pro MFP M29W printer on a new Dell laptop and I cannot get it to scan consistently. Once in a blue moon it will actually produce an image. How can I fix this issue? I install the Full printer software twice but still does not work.
